So Much to Be Thankful for...Thanksgiving 2008
This year we celebrated Thanksgiving with Curt, Britney, Hailee, Mom, Gary, and Dan. We used the linen from South America Elaine gave us. Thanks Elaine. I used Uruguary in celebration of AJ and Jack used Brazil in celebration of Ed.
Danny and Hailee totally loved playing together. Danny was so gentle with Hailee. Hailee loved the attention from Dan.
A fun late-night game of Texas Hold'em followed dinner.
Great Grandma took all of the chips in the final pot to win.
We are thankful for the opportunity to spend Thanksgiving with family. We miss those that could not be with us.
We participated in "Black Friday" by splitting up. Britney, Hailee, and Lori went one direction while Jack and Curt went to the mall. Can you believe it? Jack and Curt went to the energy sucking mall on their own. They spent a glorious 45 minutes in the Craftsman tool section at Sears, gathered up a bag full of door buster specials, and made a successful escape. We got a good startl on Christmas shopping and contributed to the economy.

Yellowstone: Give Me a Home Where the Buffalo Roam, and the Deer, Antelope, Bear and Elk Play. . .
We took a day trip to the Lamar Valley in Yellowstone Park and Cooke City, Montana today. The Lamar Valley is our favorite place in the Park. The scenery and wildlife viewing are exceptional. Most Park visitors are unaware of this fabulous area, so it is generally less crowded. Cooke City is just outside the Northeast entrance of the Park. It sits at the bottom of a steep valley. It is a wonderful little mountain town. While it is somewhat run down, it is a great place to visit and is high up on our "all time favorite places" list. From Cooke City you can climb over Bear Tooth Pass to Red Lodge, Montana or travel the Chief Joseph Highway to Cody, Wyoming. Here's some of what we saw along the way.

It took us almost a half hour to stalk to within good picture distance on Dunraven Pass after we first spotted this bear.

Tower Falls always looks terrific.

Watching the buffalo herds along the Lamar River.

There were over 100 buffalo in this herd.

Lori tried to get a front or side shot, but this pronghorn had a different side it wanted to show us.

Lori is the Annie Oakley of the digital age. She snapped this shot while we were travelling at 45 miles an hour!

The east end of the Lamar Valley. Cooke City is just around the corner.

Jack has been travelling to Cooke City for over 20 years. This was Lori's first trip there. The little A-frame has sat unused along Main Street for many years. Someday we're going to buy it and sell "Jack's World Famous Dogs" out of it! Want to see more of Cooke City? Go to Google maps, enter "Main Street, Cooke City Montana" in the search, then select the "street view" option in the "Address" box. It will take you right down onto Main Street. You can navigate up and down Main Street using the navigation tools in "street view". Check it out! (Special thanks to our good friends the Scotts for telling us about the "street view" feature of Google Maps!)

Lori caught this deer at Canyon Junction just as it ran back into the forest.

These elk were resting in a meadow along the Gibbon River.

Here's a great shot that shows the devastation of the fire of 1988 and the new growth that has come up since.

Helping Out at the Bed & Breakfast
These pictures were taken April 11, 2008 and show just how deep the snow still was when the decks crashed.
Jack helped Cathy & the family crew with the deck project at the bed and breakfast. Last winter's snow sent the decks crashing to the ground. New decks are in the process of being built. The project began with transplanting flowers from the front to a new graden and hot tub area in the back. Next, the post holes were drilled and emptied.....except for a mysterious occupant that just kept popping up out of the holes. I wonder what or who it is? One minute the hole is empty and the next minute it is occupied!

Jackson Lake Lodge
The other night we were watching an Idaho Public TV series on National Parks Lodges and they were showing Jackson Lake Lodge. We decided it would be fun to go there for a visit. We had breakfast in the Pioneer Grill. The Grill is known for it's very long counter. We had a good breakfast. The coffee was great!
We stopped at the Chapel of the Sacred Heart where Gary and Nancy were married and took the picture below in their honor.
We took some great pictures at Jenny Lake.
On the way home we stopped in for a visit with Wiley, the great fisherman, and Jeremiah "John"son otherwise known as my brother, John, hiding behind his new beard.

Yellowstone Park
People come from all over the world to see one of our nation's treasures, Yellowstone National Park. We decided to take a trip to Yellowstone with Curt, Britney, and Hailee stopping first in West Yellowstone at the city park for a picnic. We found an empty shady picnic table and clean bathrooms-that was a nice surprise! It was a sunshine-filled day just right for viewing the scenic vistas of Yellowstone.

Back for the Summer
We're back at our "cabin" for the summer. We plan to enjoy time with family, relax playing a little golf, and fishing some too. Check out the pictures of the cabin and the view below.
